MT. EDEN BOROUGH.
GENERAL. AND SPECIAL. BATES. At a meeting of the Mount liden Borough Council the. following rates were struck for the year ending 31st March, 1911: —General rate of 1/4 in the £, charitable aid rate of 2d in the £. together with the recurring rate in the No. 1 water area of IJd in the £, and the recurring rate of 2d in the £ In the No. 2 water trea. the total rates for the various districtsihelng as follows:—No. 1 water area, l/7i in the £: No. 2 water area, 1/S in the £, abd for the No. 3 district, 1/G in the £. At a special meeting held subsequently, n special rate of 6d in the £ was struck as the security for the loan of £31,7(X) for side roads' reconstruction works, us well as for widening the approaches to the Dominionroad railway bridge, and also a special rate of }d in the £ for baths and site for municipal buildings.
Those rates, although struck, will not be collected during the current year. and. when striking the next year's rates, the Council will he enabled to lower the general rate, as all road improvements will come out of the loan moneys available. The growth of the Borough of Mount Eden has been very rapid, the population now being well over 10,000, and the annual ratable value of ratable properties amounts to over £83,000, which, on a 5 per cent basis, and adding the value of the non-ratable properties within the borough, will bring the capital value ■well over £2,000,000.
