MINER SERIOUSLY. INJURED.
FALL DOWNJ A SHAFT. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HUCNTLY, Tuesday. This afternoon Mr J. A. Williams met with a serious accident an Ralph's mine, he had just relieved the early shift onsetter, and was in the act of sending a loaded skip up the shaft. He gave the signal to the engine driver to hoist the cage, when it is .conjectured that, in endeavouring to clip on the skip, he was caugJit by the ascending cage. It is stated by one eye-witness that Williams was carried some distance up the ehaft and fell to the bottom. The skin on his arms and legs was much abrased, and he had a deep cut- about an inch long on the left side of the head. Tie pressure on his head was so great that one, if not both of the eyeballs burst. The ■unfortunate man, who lost a large quantity of blood, was removed to the Waikato Hospital in a comotose st»te.
