The annual smoke concert of the Whansare.l Rifles, of. to call them by their new title, G Company, No. 1 Battalion, Auckland, Territorials, was lield in the simper rooiil of the Brill Hall last night. Captain S-teadinan, of tue unattached list, was in the chair, and with him were associated Major Clark-Walker (late 3rd Regiment), Captain I'earce, . Lrieu'ts. Mackesy and Proctor. Representatives of the W-hangarei Kire Brigade, under Superintendent Chfssell, as well as many .civilians, were prissiia* although- many were prevented Iron!' attending by the wretched weather. A Very enjoyable evening was spent, the following toasts being honoured: "The King, ,, "Thin' Regiment Mounted Kiflos," "Oillcers of tbe Unarttathed List," "Whangarei Killes," '-The Orchestra," "Whau.garei Fire! Brigade," and •The Press." Entertaining items were contributed by Sergeant Woods, Sergeant Major 'Boote, Mr. Pearson (violin solos), and Major Walker. Mr. Lange's orchestra, consisting of Messrs. Huft (cornet), Professor Hntton (silver flute), > Lange (clarionet) CBlssell (string bass), Forbes (violin), P. 'Williams (cornet), and Mastet Dobson (piano) played several selections that were much appreciated. Several interesting speeches in connection with, the new defence scheme were made by the officers present, and a most success-till function was brought to a. close by the singing ■of "Auld Lang Syne." ,
