There is every promise of a fine Easter, . which is ahvays regarded as the. end of I the summer holidays, and there will , doubtless be a very large number of peapie taking advantage of the many opportunities of a last glimpse at the hundred and one delightful resorts in the vicinity, of the city and harbour, before settling down to a winter of work. Most of the wholesale houses and the professions are closing down from this evening till Tuesday morning next, but the retail places will mostly re-open on Saturday. The Stock Exchange is closing till Thursday morning next. The Post Office has made the following arrangements: Good Friday is to be observed as a dose holiday. On Easter Monday, post offices are to be open in all branches, except Money Order and Savings Bank, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mails usually dispatched on Fridays will be closed on Thursday, ' 24fh, at 7.45 p.m. On Monday all mails usually dispatched after S a.m. will close at thai Sour. Street letter-boxes will •be cleared at midnight on Sunday. Ny "delivery 'by letter-carriers will be ■ made on -Easter Monday, but a full delivery ■will be made by carriers on Saturday afternoon, and a delivery of town letters will he made over the counter on Thursday and Saturday, from 7 to 8 p.m. . The office of the Tourist Department's Inquiry Bures-u. in the Government Buildings, Customs-street, will be open ! this evening from 7 to S p-m., for the ■ purpose of issuing tickets combining raili way, steamer, coach, or motor tours i throughout the Dominion at excursion |.fares. Tickets lor rail alone will not 'be I issued by the Department. Those who have not made up their minds where to go will find the following list of interest: — THIS EVENING. The Railway Department has decided ' to run a. , night train to Rotorua,. and. ' those who wish can spend the ■whole ol the holidays there, and return to Auckland in time for business on Tuesday morning. The special leaves Auckland this evening at ten o'clock, and Rotorua will be left on Monday next at 7.15 p.m. To enable people to get away'into the country districts late trains will be run to-night on the various lines. Passengers for Frankion will no* be allowed to travel by'the Wellington express. The Northern S.S. Company announce excursion steamers for Grutt's, Waiwera, Algie's, and Kawau, leaving at six p.m., I and fox Arkle's Bay and way ports, leav--1 ing at .7 p.m. Holiday rates are available on the Thames, Eaeroa, and Ooromandel lines, and special 'boats leave for Waipu at 0 pjn., and for Whangarei at 8 p.m. GOOD FRIDAY. Express trains will leave for Rot'orua, Thames, Warhi, and Cambridge at 10 a.m.; for Wellington at 10.35 a.m. and 9.15 p.m.; and a number of ordinary trains w>ll also run, particulars of which are given in our advertising columns. An excursion train to Tβ Aroha leaves Auckland, at 6.45 in the morning, returning from Te Aroha the same night. Auckland provincial bowlers will begin their Easter tournament at the various greens at' 9 a.m. Lunch is to be provided at Auckland, Ponsonby, and Grey Lynfi ' greens, and afternoon tea at all greens. j Tramway employees who only get one I holiday in the year hold their annual ! picnic ut Motutapu, and the service will be suspended in consequence throughout the city and suburbs. -Water excursions will be run by the . Devonport Ferry Company to the many spots of interest about the harbour and I gulf. The Northern S.S. Company,, as j usual, will carry excursionists; to those I popular places, Waiwera; and. Kawau, and- tlie Takapuna Tramway Company ■will run the Pupuke to Takapuna. Although Saturday will not be observed by many of the retail places aa a holiday, a number of excursions are advertised, and the Auckland Racing j Club's autumn meeting, opens at Eliers- • I lie. Various trips- will be run by the I ferry boats, and' the Northern Company run excursions to the watering places in the guM. :, Among the picnics taking place arc those of the Foresters at Motutapu, the employees of the . Freezing Company., and , ' the Tanners. • Tennis players will be welcomed by the Otahuhu Tennis Club, who are Opening ■ their new courts in the afternoon. '. . ,' ; EASTEB.'MONDAY. •- • Holiday makers- will not lack for ■ places of amusement on this great day of the year; In addition.- to the races at Ellerslie, there will be a host of water excursions, plenty of opportunities of getting out into the country by rail,.- and among other items in a large programme ! are sports at Helensvilie, volunteer sport* at Mctukorea, and Foresters' sports at the Thames. . ' , CHDECH SERVICES.. - The Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches are holding the usual impressrve services which mark the season. At : St. Mary's Cathedral a sacred cantata will be rendered this evening. The Rev. H. S. WooUcombe, secretary of the C.E.M.S., will conduct the "Devotion, of the Three Hours" at St. Paul's on Good Friday. At St. Matthew's there is to be a recital of Passion music to-morrow night. Mr. and Mxs. Jas. Cummings,. the Scottish singing evangelists-,, conduct a special service in St.. Lukes Prebyterian Church to-morrow "evening, the subject, being. "A Visit to Calvary." " Special Good Friday services will be held in the" East-street Hall, conducted by the Rev. J. Wilson. The preacher and soloist will be Mr. Enos Bacon, "the YorKshire Nightingale,"- The services are to be held at 11 a.m., 3.- and 7 p_m. Mr. Bacon leaves for Rofoaia on- Saturday morning. An all-day convention- for the "Deepening of spiritual life" is announced' for tomorrow at the Central Mission Hail, Albert-street. Evangelists,. Mr. and .Mrs.' . Camming, of Queensland, and Stephens, of Victoria-, and others will take a. leading part in each service. . The annual Good' Friday recital ie, . announced for to-morrow evening in tha.
