The .telegram received from Wellington, published to-day, setting forth the proI posals of the Government- respecting the utilisation of the water power of New Zealand, has been received generally with considerable satisfaction. 5 The Mayor (Mr. F. Day) has wired the Premier, expressing the hope that Wairua Falls will be included in the scheme. : Councillor DargavHle considers .the cost of.a. combined eSort to produce sufficient electrical, energy..at. Wairoa to light both Whanga-rei . and Wairoa, -would be very small, inasumch as.that the distance,.as the crow, flies, would be within twenty miles of. each, -centre. The ' advantage of having both townships lighted, by electricity,', .and; ; sufficient 'power ■ genera ted to operate all the mills on the river, and { the' besides bush hauling and other industries which must spring , up when, cheap power is available, must be apparent to; all.
