Won comfortably ! by a length. Time 1-34 3-5. Benzine fell ' entering the straight, and broke his leg. I The horse had to be destroyed, but his I jockey escaped unhurt. j | RACING IK ATJTBA-J- j BIG INCREASES IN STAKES. (Received 9.30 a.m.) STDN-ET, this day. Trafalgar put in a good gallop over a milt and three-quarters to-day. He ran the first half-mile in 545., and the remainder of the distance in ___ Bobrikoff, with an assistant at each end, cut out a mile and a-quar-ter in 2.144. The Victoria Racing Club has increased the Melbourne Cup stakes to £6000 for the i first horse. 1300 for tie second, and £600 ] for the third. The Newmarket Handicap Is I increased to £1500: the Dertov to £3000 for tie first horse, £600 for tie second, and £300 for the third. The Grand National Hurdles is lucre—sed to £1500, and otheT increases have been sanctioned, the whole totalling £5475.
