Ten shillings a day for water were being paid by some ".w people in Balclutha prior to a g.od shower some few days ago, which replenished in some. degree the exhausted water -tanks (say 3 the "Chris—hurch Press"). The season had throughout been an except— dry one, and rain was of ten-eagerly looked for. A hea-vy rain fell over a -wide district on Wednesday night, and proved most acceptable to all. Tito fine weather has 'been most favourable 'for cereals, and as a consequence the quality of the wheat from the south this .year, millers say, is as good as, and in many cases superior to, much of the wheat from the more popular districts of North C—go and Canterbury.Ladies* cravenette cloaks from 10/; tweed jackets 7/11, usual price 38/6, good quality.
