WAIKATO CENTRAL AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
(From-. Our Own Correspondent.)
CAMBRIDGE?, Saturday. A meeting of the executive committee of the above Association was held this afternoon. There were present: Messrs. John Fisher (president), is. Allen, "J." Hooker, E. Reynolds, A. _ Souter, J. Ail will, J. Anderson, H. C. Bertie— and N. Banks. Mr, Close, of __wal_-ira, wrote conveying: to the officers/of the Association his congratulations on the excellent manner in which his stock had been treated when at the Cambridge show, ana the many privileges extended to himself.—Acknowledged with thanks. .Mr. J. F. Taylor, of Te Awamntn, wrote complaining that a roadster filly exhibited by Mm at the late show had 'to compete against thoroughbreds in the same class. He asked that this be altered in the future. The matter will be referred 'to the incoming committee for consideration. Accounts for prizes, etc., connected with the show were passed for payment, amounting to the large amount of £1103 14/9. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded Messrs. J. and W. Strang for their services and tho handsome donation of their travelling • expenses. The following recommendations to the incoming- committee were made: That accommodation be reserved at the luncheon for the judges and stewards; that the matters of accommodation for dogs,' the stewards* luncheon, and the home industries, be further considered. It was resolved to have the jumps attended to, and Mr. Banks kindly undertook to have a live fence planted at the water jump. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the stewards for the very efficient and enthusiastic manner in which they had carried out their duties. It was resolved to write Messrs. Oarroway and McCarthy re the measurement of the horses exUbited by them t _ class 28, some being of opinion 'the animal belonging to the former gentleman is over the required height. A number of the stewards then attended, for the purpose of making any recommendations to the committee. Those present were: Messrs. Gray (2), Allen (2), Fisher (2), Fitzgerald, Tucker, Brunskil), Anderson, Keid, and I. Taylor. The chairman conveyed to them the vote of thanks that had been accorded at the previous meeting; and then asked for suggestions of future shows, which would be handed on to the new committee as soon as they are appointed. Mr. T. Wynne-Brown wrote apologising for not. being able to attend, but making the following suggestions: (1) That horses entered in more than one class should have one number only, as it would help the stewards and also the judge; (2) that all hunters should be judged by a hunting-man. No matter how good a judge of a horse may be, if he knows nothing or takes no interest in hunting, he cannot judge a hunter. | He thought it was all wrong that a pouyi which got third prize as a polo pony should ] come out and scoop the pool in the hunters' events, and thereby figure as the champion hunter Of the Wail—'to. Mr. ] Brown admitted the pony was the best jumper on the ground, but the fact of him being a good jumper did not make him ' a • hunter. He thought the remedy would be to appoint a huriting-man as judge at future shows. Arrangements should be made for horses to have only one number, and to secure the services of a hunting-man to | judge the classes for hunters. It was re-' solved to recommend the incoming committee to reduce the number of special classes for carriage horses; that the regulations be altered to allow of stewards putting paint numbers on cattle to facilitate yarding purposes; that a judging ring -be made for draught horses; that the old style of having tickets for the guessing competition be reverted to; that a proper measuring stand or' stands be erected for measuring tho horses; that the height certte be Insisted upon In all classes before the -torses go into the ring; and that sheep coming by train be marked with some coloured wool, or some such substance, to facilitate the yarding.
