PONSONBY. ■\ Grafton and Ponsonby met at Victoria Park, the former winning the toss and Datting on a good wicket, but in the -early part of the innings, the smoke from -he destructor caused the batsmen some inconvenience. Grafton did not give a'very attractive display, and when the last wicKet fell, batting one- short, the total had only leached 146 for two hours and twenty minutes' ' batting. Mason and Gray were the only pair to reach the twenties, the former scoring 29, > and the latter 27. Ponsonby opened their Innings- at five minutes to five, the first two wickets falling, for three runs, and when stumps were drawn for the day they had lost sis wickets for 57, of which total L. G. Hemus made 41 by forceful cricket. Scores are:— GRAFTON. First Innings. E. Horspool, c Robinson, b McMa'th . < .. 17 R. Neill, b Snedden .....': 18 R. Mason, c and b MeMath ." .. 29 A.
