CONGREGATIONAL UNION.

The foUowing business was transacted at this morning's se_s_-ion of the Congregational Union. A hearty vote of .thanks was accorded the Colonial Missionary Society lor its continued support oi Congregational work in Now Zealand, and it -w-us resolved to convey congratulutiont. to the Rev. D. Burford Hooke on the occasion of his having had conferred on him the degree of Doctor of I Divinity by the Congregational College aiiilia-tcd with the University o_ Montreal. ! The Pastors' Provident Fund report. I was presented by the Hon. George | Fowld'-s, who stated that the capital fund, j amounting to £3130, bad now been reached. The ud-optiou of the report and balance sheet -was carried. Mr. W. Bull, of Gliristchureh, was reelected a member of the Board, and the resignation of the Hon. George Fowlds as a member was accepted with regret; various speakers referred to the splendid sen-ice he had rendered in connection with the Board. Mr. G. M. Fowlds, a son of the Hon. G. Fowlds, was elected to fill the vacancy caused 'by the resignation of hie father. In iregard to the examination of missionary candidates, it was resolved to approach the London Missionary Society with a view to arranging for the examination of local candidates in New Zealand. These examinations have hitherto been held in Melbourne. The Standing Committee on Sunday School work was re-appointed, the Rev. W. A. I.vans !>eir_i. appointed convener. The Committee was in?tructed to report Ito the next Council, especially in reference to methods of securing more efficient training for Sunday School teach ers.
