FAREWELL TO MR. BAUME.

A large gat-iering of Mo«__-___n_ assembled at the Synagogue Chambers on Sunday afternoon for the purpose of greeting Mr. and Mrs. Baume prior to their departure for Europe, and presenting Mr. Baume, their past chairman, with a small token as an expression of their deep regard and affection, and a re-minder of the many pleasant hours spent together. Mr. Baume has 'been tiie first and only president of the Maccabaeans Club since its inception. Rabbi Goldsteki presided, and in a few well cho_e_. words cordially welcomed him again among -hem, ejcpressing a/t the same time the deep concern and anxiety which his illness had caused among bis friends. The Rabbi spoke of the keen interest and active enthusiasm in all matters pertaining to the growth and strengthening of ecnnmercial life, and the 'benefit they had derived from has wise counsel. Both Mr. and Mrs. Baume nad worked their way into the hearts of tho members of the Club, who regarded them with real deep seated affection. In wishing him "Adieu," "Au Revoir," the Rev. Mr. Goldstein expressed the hope that Mr. Baume would return materially benefited from the journey he was undertaking, and assured him of ihe prayers and good wishes of the members for his welfare. In conclusion ihe presented foiim on behalf of the n-embera with a beautiful gold-mounted walking stick and umbrella suitably engraved and in a case. Mr. Baume replied feelingly and spoke of the necessity of fostering and encouraging an in-ftiUrtion which bad for its object the advance of the social life and the creation of good feeling and better understanding among the members of the community. In thanking the members for the handsome present, he concluded by referring to the many bappy hours spent amongst them for nrutua. advantage, and hoped that on his return both he and his 'wife -would again enjoy the pleasure of working actively for the advancement of the objects of the club.
