PORT ALBERT.
The annual meeting of the Port Albert Band of Hope, held in the Temperance Hall, was a pleasant and most successful one. Mr. BoTtonriey (president) distributed prizes to a number of members. On Friday the annual treat to the children of the Pert Albert school was given In the new recreation ground. This school maintains a creditable record for a country school. For the past three weeks we have had showers almost daily. Creeks are running, tanks are full; much of the wool has fetched lOd, and we have plenty of feed for stock, and the fruit crop is very fair. It Is evident that there must be considerable improvement made in our roads before we can have much heavy traffic to several stations along the North Auckland railway. Much of the fruit of this district will have to be taken to the Te Hana station by water. Unfortunately, the station at the head of the tidal creek will only admit launches of light draught to get to the station at nearly high water.
