THE C.E.M.S.

A FORCE FOR. GOOD IN TRALIA*(By Cable. —Press Association.—OopyrigntJ (Received 8.45. a.m.) ■ '.": ! LONDON, January 31. The Archbishop of York, preaching at Kingston, said" the Church of .England Men's Society, now being established-in Australia, would be the means of solving many of the social problems .outside party politics. He regarded it as the pTobable means of strengthening the links of Empire. .' . . -

The Rev. H. S. Woolcombe, Church of England Missioner, who is -at present stirring up interest in the mission in New Zealand; speaking at Wellington the other day, said: "No mah had a right to blame God if the Church was. weak.- It was not God's fault, but man's laziness, slackness, and indifference. God's power was there, but man's co-operation was wanting. Nor would it serve to say that one paid the parson for looking after J religion. Each one had a place, like the ' different limbs and bones in the human ! body. 'You've got no right,' continued. I Mr. Woolcombe, 'to blame, your .parson because the Church isn't : strong, .unless I you're all doing your part. It's not I enough to go to church and criticise tha ! sermon when you come out, and say you could preach a better one yourself. PerI haps you could. But were you sent there |only to criticise? Of course, you'll criti, cise a thing, if you love it, and try to make it better, but you mustn't stop I there. Every Christian must be a worker. That's what the Church of England Men's Society means. It is to have, in every parish, a body of Churchmen banded together to help forward the work of the Church, and to keep in touch-with God by means of prayer. Those are its two simple and prayer."
