On Saturday, February sth, the Ponsonby Swimming Club win hold their annual harbour race from the Northcote wharf to Shelly Beach. Last year there were IS entries, and this year at least 30 are expected. The Y/YL Company, olfer a shield for first prize, and Messrs. J. W. Griggs and S. Atkin £5 for second prize. The crowd present at this function last year exceeded 6000, and there were some 200 boats. Mrs. Campbell and Mr. J. H. Upton have kindly consented to throw open their grounds. Several novelty events are promised, and. in especial a greasy pig race, for which. Messrs. S. W. Buck and W. Campbell have promised a pig weighing 1501bs. A ferry steamer will 'be provided to convey visitors to the scene.
