THE GOLDFIELDS.
MINE MANAGERS' KEPOttrS.
Mount Zeehan, —Driving at the north end face is toeing proceeded with, and the quarta broken out still shows a great improvement, and promises an important development, in the south end, owing to the ventilation being afteote.l by the water in the creek drying up, rising had to be discontinued, so a start was rande to continue sinking the winze . immediately under the rise. During the week some nice-looking :ore was 'taken out, and by appearances, apart from its sulphide values, should yield gold at any time. As soon as the Moanatairi battery as available, in about -a fortnight, the trial crushing from this mine will be put through.
Asbestos.—Three men have been working steadily at Cobbing Shed Creek, and so far the manager is well pleased with the Indications. Three merchantable yeius and numerous small veins have been uncovered in rock well suited for treatment in the mill.
Point Russell. —ln the stope going south the reef Is a. nice compact body of stone lft thick, carrying a good class of minerals. In the stope north about 10ft has been broken down, and although no gold Is visible In the stone (the lode at this point is heavily mineralised), by burning it colours of gold can be seen.
New Success.—ln the one level going north the dirt has all been trucked out and the level timbered up and a start made to rise again. The leader is improving, and the dirt is being saved. Daldy's leader going north-east shows strong colours of gold, aud the leader is looking first-rate.
Phoenix.—The manager reports he will soou be in full swing, with a big staff of men. The water is up to forty feet In the shaft, and will take about two days to get out, providing the engine and pump do good work.
Coromandel, Ltd. —In No. 1 level there Is a very fair chance of getting on a run of gold at any time. It is also . intended to prospect several other reefs on the property.
Klri Klrl Consolidated.—A track has been cut from the main road into the mine. The air pipes have been placed in position in the main level, and a good system of ventilation Installed.
Mountain King.—The intermediate level north is in country of an excellent class for carrying gold-bearing reefs. About Bft of the reef is taken down, and averages about Bin in width. The quartz is of a kindly nature and seams .of sulphide and colours of gold are showing. Stoping south, the reef still continues to look well, and shows strong colours of gold distributed •through the ore when taken down. The •reef stoping north averages about 7in, and shows colours of gold when taken down.
"Waihl Extended. —The north face on No. 1 lode Is in 47ft. The hanglngwall was met with striking magnetic north. The drive has been widened out to get *iore Into the centre of the lode. In doing this •bunches of good grade sulphide showed, the best yet seeu in this lode. In' No. 2 drive, Bft of stone are exposed. The face is now under No. 5 winze, and a rise will be started to connect with No. 5 winze.
Ngatlawa Consolidated.—The etope Is still yielding very low grade ore, but there ought to be an improvement as it goes up higher. A few tons of ore from the third stope was crushed, and a sample from the Up assayed £1 3/8. Fifteen tons from the leading stope were crushed, and a sample from the lip assayed £1 7/3. In the Sunbeam section at the No. 1 level, the reef still maintains Its size, and looks well.
