HEALTH EXPERTS AT THE BOVRIL FACTORY.
The Earl of Arran, X.P.. iSir James Crlchton-Browne, M.D., F.R.S.,and other Directors <>f Bovrll, Limited, received a distinguished party of Health Experts on 6th November, lyfjO, at the Bovrll Factory In, London. The Company included the members of the Sj>utU Eastern Sectlou KJreat Britain) Sanitary Association. The visitors were conducted in parties over the magniticent premises of the Company, and oue aud all commented upon the cleanliness and brightness of the Factory, and the smart appearance of the factory hands. The splendidly equipped laboratories, where the raw materials are subjected to the scrutiny of experts, were then inspected, and the visitors were shown the concentrated beef materials to the form In which they arrive direct from the factories Of the vast Bovrll Estates. Sir James I'rlchton-Browne delivered the following most Interesting speech:— "I am glad to be allowed to add a word of welcome to, what Lord Arran has already said. You teive come here to-day spontaneously, by your own desire, at your own suggestion, and you are particularly welcome guests to the Directors of Bovrll Limited, because they know that you are fair and intelligent and discriminating critics. You are all food specialists. The examination of food is part of your daily duty, and you are therefore peculiarly capable of understanding and appreciating the various steps add processes in the manufacture of an article that has become an important element of fqod.to the people of this country. A TBIIPLB OF SANITATION. "I venture to think that these works which you have seen this afternoon are a temple of sanitation. Everything that is possible Is done to secure purity and cleanliness. You have witnessed the evolution of Bovrll throughout all its stages of growth, and you have seen it clothed and decorated, that is to say, bottled and labelled and ready to be sent forth to all quarters of the >:lobe. "I am not.going to expatiate upon the scientific principles that underlie all the manipulations' aud methods you have seen here, nor am I going, to enlarge .upon the. physio-logical reasonableness of the resultant article Bovrll, the quintessence of beef, the epitome of a boviue volume. You have witnessed that If Is prepared with the most scrupulous care, and that everything is done to secure, that it is. of the very best quality. Bovrll. has chemists of its own in its laboratories, both, here and on the cattle estates, so that it is able to scud oiit with every Invoice a certificate guaranteeing that the Bovrll is up to standard and description. There Is an experimental analysis of Bovrll carried on lii fne~large scaie by mankind at large, to which Bovrll can now appeal, an analysis carried on, not in the chemical laboratories, but in the, laboratory of the human stomach and bod v. In the mouths of millions, the claims of Bovrll are justlrietl.. Millions who have tasted and tried it to-day are satistied that the flavour of Bovrll excites the .appetite; that Bovril is a powerful aid to digestion; that it stimulates the:heryes without subsequent depression; that It relieves fatigue, and that it is invaluable In the sick-room aud during convalescence after sickness. It Is not a philanthropic preparation. It is a business preparation. If it invokes art and humour In spreading abroad a knowledge of its virtues, it makes no extravagant, no incorrect pretences; it holds out no promises that cannot be realised, but it is, as I have said, a genuine food, and rests its reputation on its merits." The visitors were much impressed by the photographs of the fine stock of the Bovrll estates, and also by a large map, on which rlt was shown that the Bovril Cattle Estates (over 9,000,000-acres) would cover a quarter of the whole!■• country, if situated in .England.
