MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.
Kapanga.—During the past week we Have been placing new stays and linings to the main pump rods and making the op cast pnmps secure above Ho. 1 plunger, also pushing on with the new engine shade and getting steam pipes ready to connect 'boiler with engine. Imperial.—Beporting for the weekending December 24. the manager wrote that operations had been confined to driving on the Empire reef, which Bad been stripped for a further .distance ot sft and the quarts proken down. The reef formation would average, about' 3ft of solid quartz of. a kindly description for carrying gold, and the mineral indications distributed through the quartz were of- a favourable class, and the channel cf country .through which the reef-system was traversing was of a congenial character. -.- . ,
Reliance.—The crosscut has been advanced 12ft. Bft of which is through quartz, making the reef to be 12ft wide. The quartz is" of very pliable nature, and carries some nice- minerals. -I believe there is more quartz ahead yet, as all the water making is coming from the country in the footwall- We have timbered up the last 23ft driven, and have kept the timbers wide to admit of a flat sheet or turn to be laid down to enable driving east on the reef after being satisfied .as to what la in the footwall.
Magnet—Work has been confined to the continuation of the main crosscut through the main reefi and the reef proves to be a large formation about 6ft in thickness, composed of about four bodies of quartz, varying In size from 6lu up to 2ft in thickness, with bands of mullock between. By advancing the drive north those bodies of stone have the appearance that they will come together. The quartz -broken from them during the week was of a kindly class for carrying gold, -and in the first body cut a few colours of gold were to. be seen. The footwall portion of the reef formation is heavily mineralised, and looks kindly, and.the .belt of sandstone about the reef is of a. congenial description.
