MRS KABTMASN, OF W.HITB LODGE}, FILES PETITION. The financial misfortunes of a venerable leader of London society were discussedat the offices of the Official Receiver tot the Wandsworth district in Westmlns'ter on Mjimduy, September 27. According -to the statement submitted to the creditors, Mrs Eiliza Eknina Hartmann, & personal friend of the King, finds herself with unsecured liabilities of £4a,51)6, and a deficiency of £2D,053. lira Hartmainn was a daughter of the iate Mr Frederick Steiner, an Alsatian invehtof, rtio made a huge fortune out of the famous Turkey red dye as applied to the requirements of the Lancashire cotton trade. This fortune was left to his two girls on bis death i-n ISO!), and assured them a brilliant position in French society. jlisfe Eliza Stelher inafrled the late Mr Hartmaim, a Roumanian financier, whl'e her sister became the Marquise de Janeourti During a prolonged residence in Groeve-■nor-sqUare aiid Berkeley-Square, Mts Hartmann frequently entertained the King, and on his accession was granted the use for life of White Lodge, Richmond Park, then vacant by thfe death of the Duke of Teck. Mrs Hartmann epent considerable sums on the property, and was considered to possess vast wealth. The creditors were informed that Mrs Harbmaiin, who tvas brer Reventy years of age, was in a soinewtiat serious state of health, and was at present abroad. The receiving order was made Upon the petition o~f the debtor herself, and- was accompanied by a consent to adjudication, and under these circumstances the only matter before the meeting -was the appointment of a trustee to deal with the estate. Mr John Sayers stated that he >was a creditor for over £8700, and be pointed out that, wfolle nothing could be definitely said oh the point, there tnilght still be a possibility of the creditors getting 20/ in the pound. Mrs Hartmahn would render erery possible assistance, and her own solicitors would also assist. Mr S. Salaman was appointed trustee.
