ALLEGED "RAGGING."
AT AUCKLAND RAILWAY SHEDS. G*y Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. In the House of Representatives this afternoon, Mr. Glover a-sked the Minister for Railways whether he is aware that "ragging" takes place in the Auckland railway cleaning sheds, and, if so, what steps he intends to take to prevent its further continuance? It is stated, added Mr. Glover, that ragging is practised on youths taking up work in the cleaning sheds. A new arrival is pounced upon and stripped of his clothes, and hia naked body tarred and greased. Other indignities are heaped upon him, and hard oil waste is stated to be frequently used in punishing youths falling into the hands of a pack of bullies alleged to hold sway in the sheds. It is further alleged by Mr. Glover that the supervisor is afraid to interfere with the larrikinism which goes on, and that tho inadequate lighting of the sheds at night enables "ragging" and riotous conduct to go on to a largo extent unchecked.
