In all cases in which transfers were applied for thu police report was favourable, and "'no objection.' , I When the transfer of the Aurora Hotel j license came before the meeting, Mr. P. </leeson asked to be ueard aa objecting 'to the transfer. Mr. Nicholson, on behalf of the licensee, objected at once ion the ground th;»t Mr. G-ieeson had ao . I standing, as he was not the owner of *he 1 hotel. Mr. Gleeaon admitted that the property was not hia own. but his wife's. j 'but contended th;U he had power ot atI torney for his wife. The Bench, how ' ever, "decided not to hear him. ,md the transfer was granted as .sta'ed. The only hotel on which the police ' report contained anything worthy of the i attention of the meeting was the H.ibson j Hotel. The record of the hotel was that I a charge against the licensee of having J permitted drunkenness on his premises J was withdrawn, and that on two charges lof having supplied prohibited persona with liquor he was fined £2 10/ on eaca i cnarge. j Asked whether he had anything to add j ;to the facts in the report, Sub-inspector ! Hendrey said that h<j had nothing more i !to say against the conduct of the hoiLse. j I Mr. Foley wna a man who alwaya con- j ! ducted his house well, and he I the sub- j inspectori thought that this lapse wai ! more the fault of an inexperienced girl, | who waa allowed to serve customers, than ; ;of the licensee. rhe Magistrate had I j taken that view of the case, and had. refused to endorse the license. In view of these facts the Bench de-1 I eided to take no action in the matter. I Mr. Nicholson, representing the owners I of the Star Hotel. N-ewt/on, laid before 1 ■the members plans of a substantial bnck addition to the hotel. This, as he explained, was in fulfilment of a promise given at the last quarterly meeting.
