DUDLEY AND THE VICEj ROYALTY. ; SYDNEY. September (5. The "Australian Star." an evening paper, states that it has excellent authority tor announcing chat the E.iri of Dudley (Governor-General of Australia) is to retire shortly, and to succeed the 1 Earl of Minto as Viceroy of India, and that Lord Plunket [ Governor of New ' Zealand i will succeed Lord Dudley. Inquiries at Government House to- ' night elicited the information that there ' is no foundation for the report of Lord ' Dudley's retirement. ' When the. cable given above was communicated to Government House, it was stated that Lord Plunket had not heard of the rumour, and knew nothing of the matter. His Excellency's term aj Govprnor of New Zealand expires on June 20, 1910. The Acting Premier (Hon. Jaa. Carroll i . interviewed by the press Association, stated that he knew nothing of the rumoured changes.
