COX'S CREEK SEWER.

«■«*— s The Works .Committee of the City | Council, at the ordinary meeting held . last night, presented the following report with reference to the Cox's Creek sewer: Petition from R. A. Watson and 73 others calling attention to the state of Cox's Creek sewer.—lt was decided to reply that plans for the extension of this sewer have been prepared for some time past, but the drainage loan is nearly exhausted, and until the Consolidated Loan 3 Bill, which the Council Is submitting to Parliament, is passed, no funds will be available for constructing the extension; also that the City Council is waiting to receive from Grey Lynn particulars of the proposed scheme for improving Cox's Creek. Mr. Thompson urged that money should be found for carrying out the work, as last year a number of deaths occurred from typhoid, which were attributed to the want of a sewer in the place indicated. He considered it was really a death trap. He did not know what the Health Department was about in allowing this state of affairs to continue. The Mayor said the Council wished to do all it could in the matter, and had it not been for the prorogation J of Parliament the Council would have j had money to go on with the work. Or. Thompson knew perfectly well that until Parliament met and passed the measure consolidating the city loans, the Council was helpless. The work at Cox's Creek would go on as soon as money was available. The report was then adopted.
