. . - .» - Mr H. Poland, -LP. for Ohinemuri returned to his electorate to-day after a visit to Wellington. Mr A. R_ Ponder, of Christchurch, arrived this morning by the Main Trunk express from Wellington, and put up at the .Star Hotel. Mr 0. J. Reakes, Government veterinarian, arrived in town by the Rotorua express last evening and put up at the Grand Hotel. Mr H. J. Herriott, of Wellington, arrived in Auckland' by the Main Trunk express this morning. He is staying at the Central Hotel. Mr C. E Poole, M.P., of Auckland, who has been visiting Wellington, is expected back in town to-morrow morning by the express. Mr W. Fisher, of Christchurch, wae a passenger to Auckland this morning by the express from Wellington. He is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr and Mrs H. D. Thomson,, of Wellington, arrived in Auckland this morning by the express and took up their quarters at the Grand Hotel Mr T. R. Corkill, Inspeotor of the Bank of New Zealand, has just completed an official visit to the Northern Wairoa and returned to Auckland this morning. Mr J. Ewan Smith, who has succeeded Colonel Gudgeon, has been appointed a Judge of the Cook Islands Land TitleCourt, and also to be chief judge thereof, Mr and Mrs R. G. Black, of Gisborne, who have been visiting their estate on the Darling Downs, Queensland, left the Grand Hotel te>-day, taking their departure South by the Tarawera. Dr. and Mrs Baxter, of Whangarel, reach Auckland this, evening by the Ngapuhi from the'north. They will stay at the Grand Hotel until Tuesday, when they leave by the. Tofua on a; trip to the Islands. ... At the request of the headquarters, in Dunedin, Mr James Moore, missioner to seamen in Wellington, has consented to take the position of honorary, secretary in Wellington to the Shipwreck Relief Association of New Zealand. A pleasing ceremony took place ait the National Bank yesterday afternoon, when Mr J. R. Henson, who has, been in the bank's service since 1879, was presented with a fountain pen' on th« occasion of his ,70th birthday. Mr Maxwell Walker, M.A., B. Com., Lecturer on Modern Languages at;the Auckland University College, who has been travelling in Europe, for the past year whilst studying the educational systems of the various countries, returns, to Auckland by the Mokoia from Sydney on bunday. , ■ i ' Mr Marston J. Heywood, who _fi_ been appointed district manager of the Government Life and Accident Insurance Department at Dunedin, left to take up his duties last night. Prior to his. departure, Mr Heywood was presented- by the officers and outside staff' of the Wellington district office with a handsome travelling-bag and Mosgiel rug, '.
