MASQUERADING AS POLICE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. George Devlin and George Bettridge were charged with being rogues and vagabonds, before Mr. Haselden, S.M., to-day, having been found last night dressed as policemen, with felonious intent. Devlin was arrested last night, and Bettridge this morning. A remand was asked for to make inquiries, but in reply to the magistrate, who wanted details to enable him to fix bail, the police stated that the mon were accused of obtaining !>/ from bne man, and accosting others. Devlin was arrested when attempting, with his companion, to rush one of two plain clothes constables, who came after them. Devlin had an imitation police shakoAccused were remanded till Wednesday, on bail of £10 and one surety of £10 each.
