John Nankervis, president of the Victorian Sorters' Union, giving evidence before the Postal Commissioner, said a pension scheme should be established by Government. Witness, referring to the unhealthy conditions under which sorters worked, said that about 80 per cent of deaths in the mail britncn at Melbourno during the last 20 years had occurred from tuberculosis. Sorters had to handle mail matter coming from various infected sources.
