WELLINGTON, Monday.
In the Magistrate's Court to-day 4* fore Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., Mary Ann Wright (known as Mary Jane Barrie) and David Barrie appeared as defendants in a case arising out of a raid upon a boardinghouse iii Taranaki-place. Thf charge against the former accused -vral that" on May 15 she unlawfully sold liquor to Jas. Wykes without having a license to do so. David Barrie wt charged with being connected with W The case acainst the female defendant was taken first. Evidence was given M several witnesses to prove the sale 01 liquor by defendant. Sub-Inspector Phair gave evidence thai he, with several constables, raided m Paragon boardinghouse, iv Taranab' place Witness seized 8S bottles.nl liquor, consisting of beer, whisky, an« gin, nearly all being taken from defen< dant's bedroom. In another room a man. was iv bed, with six empty beer bottle* on the floor alongside him, and anothtf partly consumed. Witness remarks'!. "You* appear to be having a good tune, and the reply was, "I always do have a good time." . Defendant was convicted, and fine« £20, with costs. The hearing of «M charges against David Barrie was a* iourned.
