YE VICE-REGAL RESIDENCE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —'When I saw in the " Star" eupplement for June sth the illustration of the plan for the new Government House, Wellington, I mistook it for an almshouse of the Elizabethan period. There can be but, one excuse for such a mean design, and that is, the necessity for an earth-quake-proof building. If so then how about the five-storeyed brick stores, built and building in our " Hub of Shakes" ? —I am, etc., H. J.
