POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. E. O. Cutten, S.M.) THE INEBRIATES. Two first offenders were disposed of in the usual manner, and William Carroll, for his eecond offence, was ordered to pay 10/, with the option of 48 hours. George Normain, for having been drunk and disorderly in Grey-street, and having damaged a pane of glass, was fined 40/. William Sterling, convicted of having procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, was fined 40/. ALLEGEJD ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. When Michael Hayden, charged with having attempted to commit suicide at Devonport, was brought before the Court, the magistrate expressed some doubt about the man's condition, and suggested tha.t he should be medically examined. Accused was remanded for a week, and Sub-inspector Hendry promised to have the matter looked into. OVER THE NUMBER. A. Cowe was charged with having, at Auckland, on May 15th, carried a larger number of passengers on the launch Star than allowed by his license. Mr. Gregory, who appeared for the prosecution (Captain Duder, harbourmaster) i said the number in excess was only two :or four. A fine of 20/ and costs was ! inflicted. ADJOURNED. Several cases were adjourned, included among the number being several against milkmen for selling adulterated milk, service of the summonses having been ' defective.
