FRANCE'S NAVY.
COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATIONS. TWO DREADNOUGHTS. PARIS, May 24. The French Naval Commission, which has recommended raising the number of battleships to 38, favours fast scouting cruisers instead of armoured, and emphasises the need of destroyers and submarines. The Commission recommends the laying down in 1910 of two Dreadnoughts of 21,000 tons, with a speed of 21 knots. The launch of the French battleship Danton, 18,300 tons, at Brest yesterday was unsuccessful, powerful tugs failing to move her.
