LACROSSE.

The second series of Championship matches were played on Saturday afternoon. At Victoria Park West End beat Auckland, after a fairly close game. At the Domain Grafton disposed of 'Ponsonby. WEST END (8 goals) v. AUCKLAND (4 goals). - rt was unfortunate that the drizzling rain and strong interfered with this match. McCoy and Borradale opened up the game, aud after sis minutes of hard play, of which the Aueklanxlers had the best, the rubber was carried well into West End's territory. A smart piece of work on the' part of J. Waiters. Wilson, and Borradale ended in the latter scoring. A few minutes alter the face the West End attack made their first visit into the opposing ground, and A. Walton succeeded in putting a smart shot into the canvas. At this stage Auckland were more at home on the slippery turf, and a forward movement, in which Watters Bros., Borradale. and Wilson took part, ended in the last-named scoring Auckland's second goal. Shortly afterwards H. Walton replied for the West End, making the score two all. Two minutes after commencing the second quarter, Borradale, who was playing brilliantly, put his side in the lead. West End next took a hand in attack. Firth, Ryder, and Walton Bros, accounted for some smart passing. Eventually It. Walton equalised the scores with a good dellvey. Iv the last quarter the winners pressed hard. Ryder sent a nice pass to Firth, who easily beat the goalkeeper. Towards the end the losers made a game effort. A short tussle took place round West End's goal. Elliott picked up aud made an opening, and passed to 3. Watters, who sent a clinking shot into the canvas. Even play followed until cease play was souuded. Mr. Sachs refereed. With unfavourable atmospheric conditions, good lacrosse was not to be expected. Both sides put their best efforts forth, and on Several occasions there was some very good play. For the winners, Stewart, Carpenter, Miller, Firth. Ryder, and A. and 11. Walton were.the most prominent. Borradnle, for the losers, played the best game on the field; 'the manner in, which he got over the slippery ground was an eye-opener. J. Watters rendered good service, and ably seconded Borradale's efforts. G. Watters, McWllliams, Elliot. Wilson, and Currle worked hard to avert defeat. GRAFTON V. PONSONBY. This game took place on the Domain. Both sides played short. After two quarters' . play, owing to the heavy rain the game was concluded by mutual arrangement G>afton scored *i goals to Ponsohby's 4. For the winners, Phllson threw six goals and Brassey one. For Ponsonby. Nolan and Woollams secured two goals each.
