The chairman pointed out thai it was imperative that a septic tank and water supply be provided for the new Whaugarei Infectious ' Hospital, the Government having refused a special grant of £300 for this purpo-e. The statement of receipts and expenditure from Ist April to May li'in showed a credit balance of £84:; 10/S, while the estimates for the period from May 12th to August 31st showed an expected deficiency of £1-54 ' J 7/4. ■ J At the monthly meeting of the Whangarei ' County Council, held yesterday, the question of the public abattoir site was discussed at length. in opposing the placing of the proposed J public abattoir at Kioreroa. it was resolved to disapprove of the proposal to establish an abattoir on a portion of tut Kioreroa cemetery, because, (1) The pro posed site at Kioreroa is not centrally ol conveniently situated; (2y that the public abattoir should be erected close to th* Whangarei Kamo-Kawakawa railway. It enable stock producers and others to have access to the abattoirs for the purpose of slaughtering the stock, which may then be railed direct to deep water at Urahamtown for shipment to Auckland or oUier ports when tlie Uoverniueut Kaiiway Wharf to UrnuiuuUiwu is completed; (Z) that no slaughtering place should be licensed of erected close ro or on a public cemetery; (4? from the Kioreroa Cemetery would reduce the danger attendant to the public by the large number of cattle which have to be driven through the main thoroughfare of the borough of Wliansarei. The clerk read a telegram from rhe Treasury Department, dated May 21st, stating that the £3000 lnaa for the MaungaUaramea-road metalling wai now available. This anuouucenient was received with applause.
