Dr. D. Angus, of Wellington, is a passenger for Sydney by the Mokoia on Monday. Major and Mrs. Hughes, of Wellington, leave for Australia on Monday by the Mokoia. Dr. and Mrs. Craig, of Rotorua, are leaving by the Mokoia on Monday, ea route for Adelaide. Miss Doris and Miss Phyllis Boult are passengers for Sydney by the Mokoia on Monday. Signor Bragato, Government viticulturist, arrived in town from Russell by the Clansman this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Marsh, of the Waikato, are guests at the Grand Hotel for a short stay in town. Mr. H. L. Lawson, of the Isational Bank, was a passenger by the Main Trunk train last night on a brief visit to 'Wellington. The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Railways, who has been inspecting the various linos on the West Coast, left Westport for Kelson yesterdajr. Commissioner W. Dinnie arrived by the Main Trunk train from Wellington this morning, and is putting up at the Central Hotel during his stay here, Mr W. Ormond, of the Auckland branch of Massey Harris, Ltd., has been transferred to Uunedin, and left for the south by the Monowai this afternoon. Sergeant Skinner, of Hauranga, came up by the Aupouri this morning, to attend the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court, which open on Monday. Mr G. C. Tothill, of Invercargill, will arrived in Auckland by the through train to-morrow, on a brief visit, and will put up at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Goodehan-Nye and Mrs. Goodo-han-Xye, sen., English tourists, who have been ''doing the Dominion, Jeave, en route for Home, by the Mtokoia on Monday. Mr. Mirrdoch Bane MeKenzie, aged about 80, formerly of Braigh, Waipu, died at Te Kuiti yesterday. The body is being taken to Waiput for burial.— Own Correspondent. Mr. E. V. Ralph, manager for the Taupiri Coal Company, accompanied by Mrs. Ralph, sen., and Miss Ralph, will leave for Australia by the Mokoia on Monday. Mr G. Herbert Chubb, of London, is expected down from Rotorua by the express to-night, and will remain at the Grand Hotel until Monday, when, ha leaves by the Sydney boat for Australia. Mr Morley, manager for Mason, Struthers and Co., Dunedin, is expected with Mrs Morley to arrive by the Main Trunk train to-morrow morning. While in Auckland they will sta r at the Grand Hotel. Colonel Harris Weinstock and Mr. W. Weinstock, of California, who have been spending the past week at Rotorua, will leave New Zealand on Mondaj 7 by the Mokoia. From Australia they proceed to Manila. The presentation from old scholars of the Grafton school to Miss M. E. Hopper, who for 35 years held the post ot infant mistress at the school, will be made a social in St. Sepulchre's Parish Hall, on Wednesday evening next. Messrs. Claud E. Sawyer, of London, and Thomas S. Hopkins, of Exeter, who are visiting the Dominion, were arrivals by the Main Trunk train this morning, and are staying at the Grand* Hotel till next week, when they go up to Rotorua. Mr. T. Brodrick has received his appointment from the Government as Gomnissioner of. Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor for Hawke's Bay, and presided for the first time at the meeting of the Hawke's Bay Land Board yesterday.— Press Association. Mr. Oxford, who has heen chief engineer of the Ulimaroa since her advent in the inter-State service, has been appointed superintending engineer for the Huddart-Parker Company at Melbourne. Mr. H. F. Kelly is now in charge of the Ulimaroa's engine-room. Mr. J. C. Xeill, Government officer in charge of prospecting parties, returned last night from a visit of inspection to the Whangarei and Cape Brett areas. This afternoon he proceeded to Warkworth in pursuance of an. inspection of cement rock areas in the Auckland district, and will be back some time next week. Capt. Hutton, of the Atua, is indieposed and will not take the vessel on ■her trip round the islands next week. Capt. Jordan, of the Maitai relieves Capt. Hutton, and Capt. F. E. Evans, of the Rotoiti, assumes command of the Maitai. Mr C. McLean, acting chief officer of the Xavua, will join the Rotoiti as acting-master on Monday. Commissioner Rees has been appointed to succeed Commissioner MeKie in jAe oversight of tlie Australasian Salvation Army forces. Commissioner Sees - has been an officer of the Army for 27 years, having filled such important commands is Field Secretary and Commissioner of International Training Homes in Loudbu. In addition, he has had charge of the Army forces in Canada, South Africa, md Sweden. Commissioner MeKie, who goes to Sweden, has just received news from England of the death of his mother. Miss K. Sullivan, who has held a responsible position in the reading and linotype departments of the Auckland 'Star," was the recipient to-day of a ■substantial present on the occasion of severing her connection with the paper. The present, which took the form of i handsome tea service, chain and pendant, was handed to Miss Sullivan by the editor (Mr. T. W. Leys), who, on oehalf of the proprietors and the subscribers, expressed regret because of her departure and sincere wishes for her uture welfare. Similar sentiments were expressed by other speakers, and Mr. IV. Wright made due acknowledgment >n behalf of the recipient.
