FIREMEN'S WAGES.
(Bj Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Christchurch firemen have been appealing , to the Fire Board for an increase lin pay and other concessions. The board took exception to men first ventilating their alleged grievances through the newspapers, but decided to hear a deputation from the men. The interview was held last night. The men set forth that the present rate of pay was not sufficient, and asked for a rise to £2 10/ per week after a certain period of service. The Board resolved that it would nob alter the present rate. No portion of theatre fees go to the men. Donations m.-de by the public in recognition of the services rendered at fires go to the brigade, to be applied to the comfort and recreation of the men, or otherwise for the men's benefit, subject to regulations I made by the brigade and .approved by the Board; it also pays 1/ per hoiy: for work done after 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Some other slight concessions were granted. The alterations to the regulations will be printed and signed by the men, and agreements will be terminated of thoso refusing to sign. A new superintendent will be appointed this evening.
