THE USE OF SWEETS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —In the vehement protest which Mr. Frank Peel considers necessary as a counterblast to " Matron's " word of caution concerning the excessive use ol sweets by N.Z. children, lie has failed to notice that the " sweeping condemnation of sweets," which he so strongly resents, was not " Matron's" but an extract from an article published in an English magazine. " Matron" makes no attempt to analyse the composition of N.Z. lollies, or to compare them with those of English manufacture. The plain contention is that over-indulgence in sweets of any kind, how-ever pure and clean they may be, is prejudicial to the health of young children.—l am, etc, MATRON.
