I U.A.O. DRUIDS. The half-yearly meeting of the Auckland Lodge, No. 2, U.A.O. Druids, just held, shows the lodge to be etui gaining in membership, and placing a good sum to their credit for the half-year. The following were elected to the various offices for the current term.—l.T.A, Bro. T. Davis; A.D., I. T. Rutledge; V.A.. Bro. V. Hunter; secretary, Bro. W. Hunter (re-elected); treasurer. Bro. C. Hale (re-elected); AJXB., Bros. Young and W. Flanagan; V.A3., Bros. Quealey and Wniteomb; 0., Bro. Cosgrave; 0.G., Bro. Millar; librarian, Bro. Sampson; auditor, Bro. T. T. Fraser; 1.G., Bro. Hart; 0.G., Bro. I. Millar; representative to grand lodges, Bro. H. Fletcher. Bro. R. Blair, D.P., installed the officers to their respective chairs for the current term, Bro. Feck acting as M.C. A handsome framed diploma was presented to Bro. Millar, the retiring A.D. DEYONPORT BOKOUGH COUNCIL. The Devonport Borough Council met last eroalng, the Mayor (Mr. W. Handler) presiding. There were .present: Messrs D W McLean, W. U. Timewell, E. J. Osborne G. Gribbin, T. Cranch, G. McKenzie, H Wilding, R. H. Froude, and P. W. McCaUnm. j Cheltenham Beach Demonstration. Perj mission was granted the request of the i British and Foreign Bible Society to hold a demonstration at Cheltenham Beach on January 17, 1809. ■Erection of Skids, —It was recommended by the Streets and Works Committee tsha —c Council erect a platform and etids for dinghies opposite Garden-terrace, the cost not to exceed £110, the street to be nia.m.ifncd to the trtdth of 66ft. Also that any person applying to have the right to us» the skids should pay an annual «üb--8.-::ptk>n of 20/. These recommendations w>- ► adopted.
Should State Pay Rates?—A letter m> received from Mr. l>. R. Ehillipps, ALP. for Waitemata, in which he stated Chat he would support legislation which woo'-d give effect to the claims of the Petone Borough Council, as expressed in their letter to the Devono.rt Borough- Council. He stated it as Ms belief thai the State should pay local nates on all property held by it dn a boi>ough, excepting that which was necessary for the specific service of the inhabitants of the I'oioagh. Tflie letter was approved by the Co-iitcil. Drivers' licenses.—Pour licenses -were granted to drivers plying for hire withla the ooouga. ONE TREE-HILL BOARD. The One-tree Hill Board met last evening in the Newmarket Borough Council Chambers, when there were present Messrs B. W. Burton (Chairman), A. Derereux, C. MeKinney, and E. Creagh. Defective Drain.—The District Health Officer (Dr. Purdy) wrote drawing the Board's attention 'to the condition of an open drain near Ranfurly-road. In his opinion the condition of the drain would never be satisfactory" until the introduction of the sewerage scheme. Tramway Siding on Manukau-road.—A , letter was received from the Auckland Electric Tramways -Company, : who asked for permission to run a siding from the tram line on Manukau-road, Epsom, into the company's property at Alexandra Park. ■Subject to the approval of the Board's engineer (Mr C. E. Metcalfe) permission was granted.
LADIES' SWIMMING CI.UB,
A general meeting of the Waitemata Ladies' Swimming Club was held at toe Club Rooms last evening, there being a fairly large number of members present. Various matters were discussed. Miss M. Syms regretted being unable to act as secretary for the coming season, and Miss A. Buchanan was unanimously elected. The committee was elected as follows, viz.: Misses P. Dawson, R. Dawson, E. Caffery, M. Weaver. D. Beach.
