THE WAIRUNA-MOONAH COLLISION.
— « SUIT FOR DAMAGES. The re-hearing of the action by the Northern Coal Company against the Union Steamship Company for £1946 damages respecting the sinking of the ketch Moonah by collision with the defendant company's steamer Wairuna, on the night of March 10 last, concluded before Mr. Justice Edwards and a special jury to-day. Mr. Cotter and Mr. McGregor appeared for the plaintiffs, and Mr. Reed and Mr. Hanna for the defence. Mr. Cotter's address to the Court on behalf of the plaintiffs lasted two hours and ten minutes, after which his Honor occupied -ten minutes in touching upon the salient features of the case, emphasising the "rule of the road" when steamers and sailing vessels are approaching one another, with the modifications re° cognised when collision seems immediately imminent. The jury retired at twenty minutes I past 12 o'clock.
