Marriner) to the presidentship of- the New _ Zealand Amateur Bowing Association,; and. members also-voiced their congratulations, adding that they ; thought the "appointment. was a r thoroughly"deserved' one:" -Mr-Mar-riner, in expressing thanks for the!; congratulations; , said he: thoucut- the election was more a tribute to the Auckland tion, than a personal matter ■ Considerable- discussion ~ took .plaice as to the locale for the championship.. Mercer was strongly.advocated, on account of the fine course obtainable, and the-fact that the southern oarsmen are more accustomed to row in fresh water,"- and it was ■argued that-for them to "row in the Auckland harbour would be a-ciurdshtpix) them. On the other hand, it was argued that the money wonld be"subscribed by the Auckland public, and it was only. fair . that those who provided .the subscriptions should have every facility for , viewing/the! races without going out.of town: It was stated thafit-.was absurd to argue., that no suitable course could be' found'regardless of wind •and weather. Huntly was also suggested, but the; mover found" no" seconder. On being, putto the vote, the-motion that ;the regatta should be held.at Mercer was lost by four votes' to three.' Eventually it was decided. to hold the regatta on he Auckland. harbour. Some "difference of opinion existed as to the date opon..which it should be held. Some were of opinion' that it Bhould.be held In January, ~but It was generally conceded that January would be a bad month,. In view, of .the fact-that so many take .their, holidays jin. that month. The opinion was unanimous.' that the-regatta should be held- earlier than in previous-years (Hart-b), and the middle of February found some favour. ' The- final selection of : the ' date , was deferred. lintil Monday next , -...:: ' The District Traffic Manager of Railways ■ wrote asking when'lt was proposed to hold, the annual-Mercer regatta, andit was decided to defers replying to;, this letter" until the date of the championship fixture had been decided upon. - .. - ■■: . • _._'.
