THE ELECTORAL ROLLS.
The newts that the general election will take place in four weeks' time is certain to quicken political activity throughout the Dominion, and to hurry on the preparations that candidates and their suppoTters are now busily making for !be campaign. But we hope that this increased interest and excitement will not be confined to those personally engaged in the coming conflict. Generally speaking, the electors take too little trouble about the exerciee of the valuable privileges that past generations sacrified so much to secure for us, and there are far too many men and women in this country who will not even go out of their way to make sure that their names are on the electoral rolls. We hope that this gross neglect of a manifest public duty will be less in evidence at the coming election than in the past. On polling day, and after the fight is over, the air is generally thick with protests and complaints from people who would not even take the small amount of trouble necessary to make sure that they were properly enrolled before the eventful day arrived. We hope that the electors of Auckland year will improve upon their past record in this respect. As the writs will be issued and the rolls closed i on or about November 3, there is not much time to be loet, and we urge cur I readers collectively and individually to take the earliest possible opportunity of making sure that they are duly enrolled, so that they may thus be able to make full use of their political rights, and j>l.iy ] the part that the law and the cons-it ij tion have assigned to them in the coming ! contest.
