MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordiaary meeting-of the~Mt..Eden Borough. Cooncil was held last night. 'Mr. O. Nicholson -(the Mayor) occupied. the chair, and there- were also present: Messrs. Hudson, Hoatan,. Potter, Davis, Bonds, Purvis, Yates, and War- - nock. Tram Stops.—A letter was received from Mr. WaUdate, general manager of the Auckland Electric Tramways Company, acknowledging the receipt of a petition asking for a new stopping place for -tram cars at JJorman-by-road, and stating that he -would see the necessary -arrangements -cere made with regard to the matter. The Drainage Bill.—Consideratie-dßcus-■sion took place -with regard to the Auckland District Drainage Bill now ■Parliament. The Mayor stated th»t he •had been invited to accompany the Mayor of Auckland to WeJlingtoa to give evidence before the Local Bills Committee. It -was inconvenient for him to do that, and, moreover, he had not the Council's sanction in the matter; 'but, "with the »:- pre3en±atives of ten of the other tweive local bodies,- he had signed a which Mr. Myers -was taking dovrai to Wellington, asking that the bill should be passed. Mr. Davis said it would be a calamity if the bill were shelved for 12 "months. Mr. Nicholson thought that by the appearance of things that was what would happen. Hfi had suggested to Mr. Myers that he should, in the circumstances, waive the objection to the representation of local bodies. Mr. Hudson thought there was likely to be great objection to closing up the Orakei Creek by the sewer pipe?. Mr. Nicholson did not think the question of representation would 'be such an easy matter. He believed Mr. Myers would suggest that ■P&rnell and Renruera be cut out of the bill, which would put Parnell to the expense of constructing its orvn sewer. After further discussion, a resolution confirming the action of the Mayor in signing the petition was passed.
