SUNDAY BAND CONCERTS.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Saturday.. The Kaigorai Band is desirous of raising about £ 120 more to enable the members to proceed to the contest at Ballarat, and with the object of getting the balance, made application to the City Council for permission to hold sacred concerts on Sunday evenings. This was granted, but a deputation of clergymen, representing the Council of Churches, subsequently waited on the Mayor, strongly protesting against the decision, and asking him to veto it. Exception was also taken to the fact that bands were paid to play on Sunday afternoons, to encourage tram traffic. The Mayor refused to take action as asked 1 by the deputation, but said he would give instruction that the concerts should not start till 8.25 p.m.
