FINE PERFORMANCE BY TARRANT. (Received 8.35 a.m.) LONDON, August 2. Middlesex beat Gloucester in the county championships by two runs. F. A. Tan-ant took 12 wickets for 140 runs. Middlesex came very near losing their position as equal second with Kent for the county championship, both .these counties being but one win behind Yorkshire, which has not been defeated this season. The present match was undoubtedly Tarrant's, as in addition to his fine bowling he scored 152 runs in one innings.
