SOUTH CANTERBURY V. AUCKLAND. The interprovincial programme was opened this afternoon, when the South i Canterbury and Auckland reps, met • for the fifth time. The weather was delightfully fine, and the playing ground at Alexandra Park in first-class order. The Auckland team was generally considered to be much stronger than the opposition, and, as a consequence, the attendance was only moderate. This is the second match the Southerners have played in Auckland, the occasion of their j last visit being in 1804. Prior to today's match Auckland's record was three I wins out of four matches played, points i for 41 against 14. The early visitors to the park were provided with a curtainraiser in the meeting between Graniuiai School and St. John's College.
