HARBOUR BOARD.
■ • The Harbour Board met iv committee at 2 p.m. to-day, wuere mere were present: Hon. E. Mitchelson (chairman), Messrs H. Heaiuer, C. C. Dacre, Captain McKcnzic, W. J. Napier. W. B. Hutchison, J. 15. Maifarlane. G. W. Dasey, H. Braaney, J. Kneen, A. Keyes. Lighting the Railway Wharf. — The engineer reported on the letter from tho Auckland (las Company, re lighting tne Railway Wharf. He stated that the estimated cost for electric lighting and gas lighting would be for each, £500 per annum. Mr Bradney said it would hardly be safe to have electricity for leading lights. Mr Napier said the experience was against lighting wharves by incandescent gaßlight, for the msntles would not stand the exposure, it was agreed to adhere to the previous decision, and light by electricity. Papa Rock Filling. — The engineer reported against the request of the ferroconcrete Company to be allowed to use I papa rock for fliliug in at the tide deflect- ' or, and the committee agreed to recommend | that the reply be forwarded to the comi pany according!}. [ Onehunga Wharf.—The Mangere Road Board wrote re the control of the Maniikau, and stated they thought they should have representation on the Board. It was decided that the Board receive a deputation from the committee appointed at the recent meeting of residents. Devonport Fire Brigade.—The question of the £25 donation to this brigade was again discussed. Mr Napier said only one £25 had been handed over to the brigade. Mr Brad ney said Mr Napier bad taken up a lot of time over this matter at different meetings. He was of opinion that had Mr Napier not been standing for Waltemata the question would never have been raised. Mr Napier said that was gratuitous impertinence on the part of Mr Bradney. Mr Napier added that he was at a social In connection with the brigade, when the matter was brought under his notice by the officers The Committee resolved that tho £50 due be forwarded for the maintenance of the brigade, in accordance with the original decision of the Board. Coal Bin.—F. 11. Williamson offered £2 5/ per wek for a section on the same terms as that granted to Mr. James Smith. It was stated th.it the Board had already let the section to Mr. Smith. Fishermen's Anchorage.—The illarbonp master reported that Freeman's Bay. west of Julian's wharf, would be suitable for an anchorage for fishing boats. He stated there were about 300 boats rjristered, and not more than half could find anchorage. The committee decided to recomfcieud accordingly.
