BOWLING.

is a copy of a letter from the Remuera Bowling Club to the executive of the Northern Bowling Association, suggesting certain modificatioM ihthe organisation of bowling in the North Island for the continuity ol representative North Island affiliation to the one body:—"Last November the Committee of this club had under review the responsibilities of the club in respect to its membership of your association, and the feeling was unanimous that the Mine had arrived for a modification of arrangements at present existing. The committee felt that the growing dimensions of the association's tournaments, and the increased expanse resulting, would prove too great a tax upon the association on the one hand, and the individual clubs on the ot*er. with the result that the number of the latter would decrease. ' It was intended that this matter should have been brought up at the meeting of the association held here last January, but, owing to the sparse attendance at the meeting, and the absence of Mr Mentiplay, our delegates decided to defer it. The question will not, however, allow of longer delay in view of the fact that it is generally understood now that some of the affiliated Auckland clubs will shortly secede. The natural effect oi this Would be an increase of the expanse Jo the remaining clubs, and an absolutely impossible position as regards the finding of greens for future tournament play; consequently, the remaining clubs would also have to call off, so cutting off Auckland bowlers from their brethren in the South. . It is certain that an absolute curtailment of the friendly and social intercourse between bowlers ol the Northern and Southern portions of the Island would be much deplored as being detrimental to the interests of bowling generally/- and we now ask that your . association will take the matter up and endeavour to combat any inclination in that direction, A scheme Which, commends itself to Our committee as likely to have a desirable effect is briefly as follows:— (1) That there be one governing body for the North Island. (2) That the North Island be divided into convenient districts; each district to have its own association; each association to be affiliated by a delegate or delegates, as may be arranged. (3) That.,each district association conI sist of the clubs in that district, and have control of all district tournaments. (4) That general or championship tournaments under the control of the governing body be held at intervals to be arranged, competing rinks to be selec- . ted. by the district association from their respective districts. In placing this suggestion before-your association, it is scarcely necessary to point out how altered are; the. conditions of ..bowling to What they were when the Northern Bowling Association was first formed. , At the present time there are more clubs in the Auckland Provincial district than there were then, in the North Island, and doubtless there has •been a corresponding growth in the southern , portion of the^lslarid.. ;• The idea' underlying; the above scheme is'(to link up all bowlers into a strong- federation, which from tho .nature of its, , organisation,; would ncit grow too,. liri-j wieldy • as to management and experise, and- at-the same time*, to preserve -to ' . each district the management -of its, internal affairs. -. We 'bclieye, that some such aeliciiie Would be in the interests I

of bowlers and bowling generally/ arid that, it -would meet With the approval of practically aUvciubs' in North Island. We hope that your, association will therefore fully consider the matter at the earliest, possible moment, and ask for an expression of opinion; from all these clubs."
