STRANGE FATALITY.
SUFFOCATED IN MUD. ffiy Telegraph.—Own correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, this day. An inquest was held at Otorohanga yesterday to inquire into circumstances surounding the death of a young Englishman named William Cass Stephenson, who was fotmd lying dead on the Waitomo Valley-road about 1 p.m. Stephenson and his brother had been out from Home about a year, and had just completed the purchase of a barn near where his body vyas found. Deceased, who was 27 years of age. left Otorohanga about noon on June I<s on horseback, carrying a cart saddle strapped to liis back. An hour later he was found by Walter Turner lying on his face in Ehe mud, dead. Medical evidence showed that Stephenr son had taken a fit, and had fallen in the mud, and died from suffocation. A verdict was returned- accordingly. The previous of the farm met' nis death by drowning during the floods ip January of 1907.
