TWO STEEPLECHASERS KILLED.

MELBOURNE, June 14. The horses Conde and I'enguin received fatal injuries in the Caulrield Steeplechase yesterday.

PAKURANGA HUXT CLUB. The Pakuranga Hunt Club met at Tanmure at uoon on Saturday, and although only a small following were present at the start, there were close on a hundred present ere the close of the afternoon. The weather conditions were splendid. On arrival a move was made ou to Mr Thomas' property, late Bleak House, where a hare was soon found. It ran round Pigeon Mountaiu, then along the road, and turned ou to Mr Fitzgerald's property, where the scent was lost, but after a little manoeuvring it was again picked up. and a rattllug good run eventuated, a kill resulting on Mr Fitzgerald's property. Soon after another hare was put up on Mr Fitzgerald's property, and ran In the direction of l'igeou Mountain, taking a line i cross gorse and barbed wire fences, and was eventually marked into a i hole at Pigeon Mountain, with the hounds almost at her heels. This was a splendid j run, and a move was then made for home, general satisfaction beng expressed at the | result of the day's sport. Followers are :d i ways sure of a good day at i'akurnn-r.i, aft the farmers In a most sportsmanlike way ! conserve the hares, and freely throw open j ihelr country for hunting by members of the rakuranga Club, which Is highly apbre ■ elated by the members. Amongst those who ' were following the hounds at Pakuranga j on Saturday was Mr Aif. Harris, who hunt- | ed the same country 30 years ago. Mr ; Cam.
