WAIHI NEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) AVAIHI, this day. The Waihi Liedertafel journeyed to Wailduo last night, and gave one of their most enjoyable concerts. Mr. A. 11. Clark has announced his candidature for the vacaut seat on the Borough Council. There was a good attendance at last night's meeting of Pride of AVaihi Lodge of Druids. Bro. Hunter wns elected treasurer in place of Bro. Stewart, who is leaving the district. A most enjoyable evening was spent by the scholars and parents of the Church of Christ in the Miners' Union Hall. Music readings, recitations, phonographic records' an address by the secretary (Mr Donaldson), aud refreshments combined to make tho hours pass swiftly. An enjoyable social was held iv St James- Hall, under the auspices ot the Waihi senior branch of the Young Women's Presbyterian Bible Class of New Zealand Mr. J. E. Sleviu occupied the chair, and vocal items were contributed by Mrs. Howarth, Mass Gibson, Mr. Mackay, Mrs. I-lowatson, and the Bible-class girls (chorus) Miss MoClatchey acted as accompanist. A feature of the evening was the introduction of two charades, iv which members of both the yonng men's and young women's classes took part, and proved themselves possessed of some histrionic ability. These charades evoked much merriment, and prizes were presented for their correct solution. The proceedings terminated with a dainty supper
