A DANGER TO PEDESTRIANS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Re the terrible accident which happened in Franklin-road, namely, a little girl being killed by a wagon driven from a yard across the footpath to the road. A vehicle driven across the footpath in this way is a very common occurrence and a constant source of danger to passers-by. Pedtestrians cannot see anything coming out until it is almost too late to stop themselves. Many a hairsbreadth escape from a similar accident have I witnessed, and it speaks well for the drivers of such vehicles that more accidents do not occur. I think the position is so universally known that 1 shall be understood at once. Now, would it not be infinitely safer to grown-ups as well as to little ones, if it were made compulsory that all vehicles be led across the footpath instead of driven? 1 myself dislike the multiplicity of regulations, but we should submit to anything which would minimise the chances of such sad calamities. —I am, etc., F. M. HILLS, Hern s Bay, 28th April, 190 S.
