FIRE AT KIRIKIRIROA

CHILD'S NARROW ESCAPE.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

KIRIE_RIROA, this day.

A nine-roomed house, owned by Mr. Johnson, of Sunnyside, was destroyed by fire at midnight. It was occupied by Mr. John Gall, who was awakened by smoke. In order to reach his little son, who was sleeping in another part of the house, Mr. Gall dashed through the flames, but had to return through them empty handed and badly burned about the face. He eventually rescued his son from a window. Mr. Gall was removed to a private hospital for treatment. The house was insured for £400 (office unknown), and the furniture for £150 in 'the Victoria. There being no water supply in Hamilton East, the efforts of the brigade were useless.
