BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Works Committee of the Blrkenhead Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr Alex. Keyes, iv the chair.
Vermont-road Footpath.—The foreman was instructed to furnish a report, and estimate of the cost.
Crossing at Mr P. Thompson's, Main-road. —It was decided to extend the footpath from Thompson's gate to Crescent-road, and a crossing to be placed at that point. Havelock-street Footpaths.—lt was decided to defer the raising of this footpath uutil after the road is metalled, the footpaths on each side of the road to be put in repair in the meantime. It was decided that a special meeting of the Council be held ou "Wednesday, 6th May, at 7.15 p.m., for the installation of Mayor, the ordinary meeting to follow. It was decided to recommend the Council to carry the drain past Mr Stewart's property to the lagoon, thereby obviating the overflow on Mr Stewart's property. It was resolved to have this matter attended to at once. It was decided to recommend the Council to sue a number of ratepayers wn.ose rates were considerably overdue, amountIng to £40. It was decided to order 400 yards of metal for the current year. It was resolved to recommend, the Council to increase tile Town Clerk's salary from £70 to- £80 per annum, owing to tae large increase in clerical work. On the motion of Councillors Pitt and Taylor it was decided to recommend the Council to grant a bonus to the boron«-n valuer of. £5 od last year's valuations. This was opposed by several of the members eventually 4 voting for and 3 against. The sub-committee appointed to meet, a like committee from the Northcote Borough Council, re the approaches to the footbridge connecting the two districts decided to meet on Saturday next at 2 p.m
